Here's your what-the-f*ck of the week: doo-wop star Dion DiMucci--yep, that's right, Dion from "Dion and the Belmonts," of "Runaround Sue" and "The Wanderer" fame--has just released a brand spankin' new acoustic blues album. And it's certifiably cheeze free. "I recorded this CD in two days," Dion writes on his website, "No tricks. No musicians. No vocal overdubs. Just me, my trusty 000C cutaway black Martin, my baby 0021, and the Hurty Gurty man on some percussion." We at Cheezeball.net are flabbergasted. Did someone give Dion a copy of the Cheezeball Manifesto? Usually when these washed-up teen idols decide to stage a comeback, they line up a half-dozen celebrity cameos, hire some talentless hack of an overproducer, and churn out cheeze curds. Not Dion. He's recorded eleven blues classics and one original tune, and embellished the lot with nothing more than a bit of understated percussion. Check out these thirty-second snippets from the album's first two tracks, "Walkin' Blues" [REAL AUDIO] and "You're the One" [REAL AUDIO]. In summation: Hats off to you, Mr. DiMucci. We're going to name an award in your honor--"The Dion"--to be given annually to the most unlikely cheeze-free release. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
